Watch Finder Methodology
Watch Finder helps you find the cheapest legal way to watch any major US game or live event. This page explains how we verify watch information, calculate confidence scores, and maintain data quality.
Our Verification Process
Every piece of watch information on Watch Finder goes through a verification process:
- Source identification — We identify the official league, broadcaster, or streaming service source for each event.
- Data collection — We record the event date, time, channel, and streaming service information from verified sources.
- Cross-reference — When available, we cross-reference information across multiple sources to ensure accuracy.
- Confidence scoring — We assign a confidence score based on source quality and verification completeness.
- Manual review — High-traffic events, free-watch claims, PPV events, and conflicting data go through manual review.
Confidence Scoring
Every event gets a confidence score from 0 to 100:
90–100: High
Official event confirmed. Time and watch source verified from official sources. Page is indexable.
75–89: Medium
Event and time confirmed. Watch info partly verified. Page may be noindex pending full verification.
50–74: Low
Incomplete or conflicting data. Manual review required before any indexing.
Below 50: Blocked
Weak or unverified data. Page will not be published.
Source Hierarchy
We use this source hierarchy (highest to lowest trust):
- Official league/event source — MLB.com, NBA.com, NFL.com, UFC.com, etc.
- Official broadcaster source — ESPN, TNT, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, etc.
- Official streaming service source — Peacock, Paramount+, Apple TV+, etc.
- Reputable API/data source — Publicly accessible schedule data with attribution.
- Manual editorial entry — Manually researched and verified via multiple sources.
- Trend/search data — Used for prioritisation only, never for factual watch data.
Free-Watch Labels
We use strict labels for free options:
- Free Over-the-Air: Available on broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) with a digital antenna. Location dependent.
- Free Official Stream: Official league or broadcaster confirms a free stream (e.g., official YouTube channel).
- Free Trial: Streaming service offers a free trial for eligible new users. Must convert to paid unless cancelled.
- No Verified Free Option: No legal free source confirmed for this event.
Manual Review Triggers
These events always go through manual review before indexing:
- Free-watch claims — must verify source
- PPV events — must verify pricing
- High-traffic events (major finals, playoffs)
- Conflicting source data
- Affiliate price or free-trial changes
- Pages suddenly gaining high search impressions
Indexability Rules
A Watch Finder page is indexable only when ALL of these are true:
- Real confirmed event or useful evergreen hub
- Confirmed date/time where applicable
- At least one verified legal watch source
- One canonical URL under /watch-finder/
- Answer-first design with source links
- Last verified timestamp visible
- No piracy links, fake free claims, or misleading buttons
If any critical data is missing, the page is noindex or held for review.
Correction Policy
We welcome corrections from users. If you spot an error:
- Use the "Report incorrect information" link on any event page
- Or visit our correction form
- We review submissions and update data as needed
- Major corrections trigger re-verification of affected data
What We Don't Do
- We never link to piracy sites, illegal streams, or unauthorized sources.
- We never claim "free" without a verified legal source label.
- We never create multiple indexable pages for the same event (one canonical URL per event).
- We never copy copyrighted article text or paywalled data.
- We never use trend/search data as factual proof for watch information.
- We never hide better free options behind affiliate links.
