What this recall means for you

Hilti is recalling approximately 3,100 TE-60-ATC rotary hammer drills used in commercial construction, infrastructure projects, and industrial maintenance after receiving 9 reports of the keyless chuck separating from the spindle during operation, ejecting the drill bit as a high-velocity projectile with enough force to penetrate personal protective equipment and cause serious injury to nearby workers. The root cause is a tolerance stack-up in the spline drive mechanism between the spindle and chuck body, which allows progressive loosening of the chuck under the intense percussive vibration of hammer drilling mode. The failure occurs gradually over time with normal use, making it difficult for operators to detect before the chuck separates completely. Construction site safety managers should immediately remove all TE-60-ATC drills from service, post the recall notice in the tool crib, and contact Hilti for a free spindle and chuck replacement performed by an authorized Hilti service center. Workers operating the drill when the chuck separates are at extreme risk of eye and facial injuries from the ejected drill bit traveling at over 200 feet per second.

RemedyRemove all Hilti TE-60-ATC drills from service immediately and tag them as recalled equipment. Post a safety notice at all tool cribs and work areas where the drill was used. Contact Hilti at 1-800-950-0488 or.hilti.com/recall-te60 for a free spindle and chuck replacement by a certified Hilti technician. Until the repair is complete, use an alternative rotary hammer model — never continue using the TE-60-ATC in any configuration. Maintain a 30-foot exclusion zone around any hammer drill in operation to protect nearby workers from projectile hazards.
